How to set up your video assignment

If you need to allow your students to upload a video presentation, such as a video or a voiceover PowerPoint presentation, you'll need to set up a CarmenCanvas assignment with the following settings:

  1. Set the submission type to Online and check the Website URL option.

  2. As an alternative, if you would like your students to be able to upload a video file without it being hosted anywhere, check File uploads.

Students: Record a presentation from your screen

There are a few different ways can present your information even if you aren't in the same room as your instructor or peers.

If you have a strong, active internet connection

Record Using CarmenZooom

  1. From CarmenZoomshare your screen, press Record to the Cloud and then share what you know. Once your video is recorded, you can find it in the Recording menu once you log into carmenzoom.osu.edu.

  2. Copy the recording URL and then share the URL in Carmen to complete your assignment.

If you have a weak internet connection or no internet connection at the time of the recording

Record using features inside presentation software or on your device

  1. To record yourself narrating your presentation, you can use: 

    1. Microsoft Powerpoint

    2. Keynote on Mac or iPad

    3. You can also record on an iOS or iPadOS device or use QuickTime Player to record on a MacOS device.

  2. Export your presentation as a video file.

  3. Once you have a strong enough internet connection, upload your presentation to BuckeyeBox. Make sure you adjust the sharing settings so your instructor can see your video.

  4. Share the URL in Carmen to complete your assignment.

Students: Demonstrate a skill

Show a skill, talent, or even a dance by recording yourself. You have several options for recording that video and submitting it to an assignment in Carmen.

Demonstrate a computer-based skill

If you have a strong, active internet connection

Record using CarmenZoom
  1. From CarmenZoom,share your screen

  2. Pess Record to the Cloud and then share what you know. Once your video is recorded, you can find it in the Recording menu after you log into carmenzoom.osu.edu.

  3. Copy the recording URL and then share the URL in Carmen to complete your assignment.

If you have a weak internet connection or no internet connection at the time of the recording

Record using features on your device
  1. You can record on an iOS or iPadOS device or use QuickTime Player to record on a MacOS device.

    NOTE: Some Windows devices do not have a built-in option for screen recording. As a workaround, you may consider capturing your presentation using the Mediasite Desktop Recorder; however, this option can be difficult for those new to using Mediasite.

  2. Export your presentation as a video file.

  3. Once you have a strong enough internet connection, upload your presentation to BuckeyeBox. Make sure you adjust the sharing settings so your instructor can see your video.

  4. Share the URL in Carmen to complete your assignment. If it is very short video, you can also upload the video file directly in Carmen.

Demonstrating/performing a non-computer-based skill 

If you have a strong, active internet connection

Record using CarmenZoom
  1. Set up your recording device so that it is able to record you demonstrating/performing your skill.

  2. From CarmenZoom, press Record to the Cloud and then share what you know. Once your video is recorded, you can find it in the Recording menu after you log into carmenzoom.osu.edu.

  3. Copy the recording URL and then share the URL in Carmen to complete your assignment.

If you have a weak or no internet at the time of recording

Record using features on your device
  1. Set up your recording device so that it is able to record you demonstrating/performing your skill. Use whatever recording software you have available on your device:

    1. iOS: Use the QuickTime app to create a webcam video on a Mac computer

    2. iPadOS: Use the Camera app to create a webcam video on an iPad

    3. Android Device: Use the Camera app to create a webcam video on an Android device. Search the web for directions specific to your device.

    4. Windows PC: Use the Camera app to create a webcam video on a Windows 10 computer

  2. Once you have a strong enough internet connection, upload your presentation to BuckeyeBox. Make sure you adjust the sharing settings so your instructor can see your video.

  3. Share the URL in Carmen to complete your assignment. If it is a very short video, you can also upload the video file directly in Carmen.
