Exporting Your Blog from U.OSU

When exporting your U.OSU site, WordPress will create an XML file for you to save to your computer. This file will contain your posts, pages, custom post types, comments, custom fields, categories, tags, custom taxonomies, and users. Once you've saved the download file, you can import this data into another WordPress site.

UX Tip

Be aware that after you leave the university, you will lose access to your OSU account. See the KB article, Ohio State Username Maintenance: Deletion of No Longer Affiliated Accounts for details about when you can expect to lose access.

Follow the steps below to export your U.OSU site.

  1. Login to u.osu.edu and navigate to the dashboard of the site that you would like to export.
  2. Click Tools from the left-side Main Menu.
  3. Select Export from the Tools menu.
Export menu item under Available Tools in U.OSU
  4. Select the content you would like to export.
  5. Click Download Export File.
Choose what to export options and Download Export File button on Export page in U.OSU
  6. Once your .xml file downloads, save your file in an easy-to-access location. Use this file to import to another blog platform.
